Throughout history, few teams have found themselves universally recognized and beloved. \u00a0One team that the world is clearly enamoured of is New York’s own Rockettes<\/a>! \u00a0Generation after generation people from around the world descend upon Radio City Music Hall to watch the spectacle where fitness, health, beauty, dance, and fashion come alive in a show of athleticism, grace, and poise.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Naturally, after seeing them perform either live on stage or on TV or the internet, little girls around the world begin dreams of becoming a Rockette themselves.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

As we all know, there is only one right way to end\u00a0a dream…make it into your reality!<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

So do you dream of becoming a Rockette?<\/strong> \u00a0Why not try realizing it? \u00a0Like any goal you simply need to break the path to success down into manageable, defined tasks and you’re already on your way. \u00a0(A nice side benefit is that much of the root of fulfillment and happiness is working on your goals…remember, its more often than not the journey, not the destination…)<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

So what do you need to do to become a Rockette? \u00a0Believe it or not, while you must have tremendous skill, talent, and discipline, the path to becoming a Rockette is open, and fair!<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

So let’s get started!<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The first step is to know about some requirements<\/strong> the Rockettes have for their dancers:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. You must be 18-years-old. \u00a0You can audition for a role prior to turning 18 as long as you turn 18 by the time the show begins.<\/li>\n
  2. Your height must be between 5’6″ and 5’10 1\/2″ tall.<\/li>\n
  3. You must present as an iconic Rockette*.<\/li>\n
  4. You must be “highly skilled” in jazz and tap dancing.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Does this sound like you?<\/strong> \u00a0Yes? \u00a0Then let’s take a look at what you need to do:<\/p>\n

    1. Audition! \u00a0Auditions are “open call” which means anyone can show up and audition. \u00a0If you are interested in becoming a Rockette for the 2015 Christmas Spectacular know that open call auditions are scheduled for Monday, August 10th at 10am at 405 West 55th Street on the corner of 9th Avenue in New York City. \u00a0 \u00a0You can find the audition schedule at\u00a0http:\/\/www.radiocity.com\/AuditionTour.html<\/a><\/li>\n
    2. You must be able to learn a very basic combination very quickly and know every little detail. \u00a0Remember that no detail is too small.<\/li>\n
    3. Get called back! \u00a0\u00a0Callbacks will be the following day, Tuesday, August 11th at 11am.<\/li>\n
    4. You will need to learn a much more difficult combination tap routine and if you make that cut you will return the next day for more choreography.<\/li>\n
    5. The directors are looking for those who can learn quickly and who have personalities that shine. \u00a0You need to project passion and enthusiasm to draw the audience in. \u00a0Exuding confidence, poise and doing so in a relaxed, joyful manner are the keys to getting selected.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      You got selected! \u00a0Congratulations!<\/strong> \u00a0What can you expect next? \u00a0You will get very busy transforming into an iconic Rockette!<\/p>\n

        \n
      1. You need to have a strong work ethic, teamwork skills and discipline.<\/li>\n
      2. Practice, practice, practice! \u00a0You will practice six days a week from 10am to 5pm during the months of September, October, and November to prepare for the Christmas Spectacular.<\/li>\n
      3. Rehearsals are physically demanding and you will be focused on health, fitness, and nutrition. \u00a0You will need all your strength and stamina to have success and should expect to adjust your daily activities to support you and your team.<\/li>\n
      4. Sleep! \u00a0You will find each day to be physically demanding and leave exhausted with the expectation you will do the same thing all over again the following day.<\/li>\n
      5. This brings in another variable to the mix…you’re going to want to be able to live nearby midtown Manhattan. \u00a0While not required you’re going to find any commute in and out of NYC to be tiresome, especially if you reside in the outer counties.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

          *I have personally\u00a0confirmed with Gary Memi, a producer with the Rockettes that in order to audition and be selected that you mustn’t be born female. \u00a0What they look for is talent first and foremost and continuity of the line. \u00a0So while you must be a perfect fit for the Rockettes, your gender history and future\u00a0is of no consequence.<\/p>\n
